When people are striving for something new, they usually don't act on impulse. And they shouldn't, because buying something expensive (or not that expensive, if it's a used car) is a responsible process. Everyone's situation is different and there are a lot of things to account for when searching for a car loan, but before you think you have all figured out about your future car, have a look at these basic tips which go hand in hand with the actual process of buying a car. 

1. Get a clear picture of what you want
If you have conditions that require specific cars, like if you want to apply for a job at the post office (they usually require you to purchase an RHD vehicle), you have children, your job involves a lot of cargo transporting etc. The thing is - the more clearly you know what you want, the bigger are your chances to get it, because you can narrow down everything to a pretty sufficient level. 

2. Ask yourself – whether or not you need extras for the car. 
There is a term ‘continuous selling' in lending business. When you apply for an auto loan, it's usually the worst case scenario for the buyer. Read the whole damn agreement. It's crucial that you don't get “anti-stain protection” or “baby seats from our very special manufacturers” if you don't have kids. People have complained about it, but they just didn't read the agreement – it's their fault if they can't do it. The extras, if you need them, can often be purchased for a cheaper price in other places, it's up to you to find them. 

3. Don't lie about your credit history. 
If lenders interview you and ask about any late payments you have made, it's obvious that if they're unsure if they can trust you, they'll use the ‘FBI agent tactic' – they'll lie to you. “Your credit report states that you have no late payments in the last few years, is that true?” Most people would answer that it is, but it's a one way trap. The lenders will often remain silent while you lie and you'll know that they saw through you from the beginning only when they'll reject your loan. 

4. It is good for you to know how much you can afford for the car monthly. 
But not for the potential lenders. Heard that? If I could afford 400$ each month for a new car which costs $15,500, would the lenders offer you a seemingly better deal? Yeah, they would. Lenders often manipulate APRs, the time of the loan and other things to capitalize on your honest statement that you can only afford to pay 400 a month to them. It's only human, not like they are evil, of course, but you need to rise and fall for your money, if we speak in metaphors. 

When all is said and done and you are ready to get a car loan, don't forget these simple tips and everything will be just fine. Be honest with yourself and your lenders, but not honest to a degree when they can capitalize on your shortcomings in business thinking. It's not worth to lose thousands simply because you lacked some things in your picture about car loans.
